Bitter Gourd, also known as Karela or Bitter Melon, belongs Cucurbitaceae family which includes veggies such as cucumber, squash, and pumpkin. Bitter gourds are typically elongated & oblong in shape, and 15-20cm long. They have dark green skin with occasional variations in hues. These veggies have bumpy and irregular surfaces with deep ridges spread across their length. Bitter gourd is notably bitter, with a slightly earthy and vegetal flavor that intensifies as it matures.

Shelf Life and Storage

Bitter Gourd can be stored in a refrigerator with a shelf life of up to 3 days. It is better to consume at the earlier. If cut, use plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator that will give it a few days before it goes bad. Keep away from direct sunlight and avoid washing the Bitter Gourd if you aren't going to use it immediately.
